Revlon Haul And GWP

From the first advert I saw, I knew I was going to wind up getting the Revlon Gift With Purchase promotion they've got going at David Jones. I had my sights set on the Sun GWP, which includes a Grow Luscious Mascara, a Colorburst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait, a Colorstay Smoky Shadow Stick in 201 Torch, a Nail Polish in Siren and a sample of Colorstay foundation for Oily/Combination skin in Natural Beige.

The main reason I was drawn to this option was for the lip butter in Peach Parfait. The other "Elegant" gift set included the lip butter in Brown Sugar, which I'm not keen on. I already own Peach Parfait, but I wanted another because my sister liked mine so much she asked for it for her birthday! Another reason was the 15mL sample of Colorstay because despite its being a fixed item in both gift sets (which means it definitely won't suit some skintypes and skintones), not only is it the right version, but it's the right shade for me too (although a tiny bit too pink, I think it's as good a match as I can get). After hearing so much praise for it, especially in this MissGlamorazzi video, where it trumps Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, I wanted to try it without buying the full size. As a first impression, it stinks. Quite literally- this is the worst smelling product I've acquired so far, and the smell doesn't dissipate. However, today I used a mix of Colorstay and Healthy Mix Serum and applied it with my fingers, and it worked really well and prolonged the wear of my foundation, especially around the t-zone which gets very oily. The mixture of Colorstay and Healthy Mix Serum held for about 12 hours. Definitely one for longer days or days I need better coverage.

While the other set contained a Colorstay 16 Hour Eye Shadow Quad in Delightful, this one included one of the new Colorstay Smoky Shadow Stick in 201 Torch, which has a pearly pink shade on one end (rounded) and a warm brown on the other (pointed). I suppose the shade with the rounded end is the lid colour and the shade with the more pointed end is the contour colour. Allison of Amarixe spoke about these in a recent video, so hearing some good things about them from her was extra encouragement (not that I needed any! :P). I've tried it a couple of times but I'm a little disappointed. The colour combination's nice but I'm not a fan of the consistency; it blends out to almost nothing so once blended, the pigmentation isn't enough on its own- I would only wear this as a base, over a primer, under powder eyeshadows. I wondered why it was included in the Colorstay line if it blends out to almost nothing and slides around until it sets, but it made sense to me later on, because once the swatches had set, they didn't smudge no matter how hard I tried. Although I'm glad I got it in the GWP to try, I definitely won't buy one again.

I've converted to waterproof mascara, so I was disappointed that the Grow Luscious mascara included wasn't waterproof. But I got it anyway, and I'm not sure what to do with it now. I'm not too big on nail polish (my collection stands at 18 bottles), but I don't have a colour like 440 Siren, which is a bright orange-coral. I guess I could get some use out of this. (Clearly these items don't enthuse me as much as the others!)

I do like the cosmetic bag that came as part of the GWP- very fitting for the 'Sun' theme. I know the tone deteriorated as the post went on, but overall, I'm pretty happy with the lot. :)

The minimum spend for this promotion was $39.95, and despite there being 30% off the Colorstay range (and the nice SA plugging it repeatedly), I didn't want any of the Colorstay products so I bought a couple of Revlon lip butters in shades I've been wanting for a while- Berry Smoothie and Cotton Candy. I swatched them alongside Tutti Frutti and Cherry Tart for the umpteenth time to try and decide which to get, but went with these two, reasoning with myself that I'd wear these more often than bright orange and red. I love Berry Smoothie but Cotton Candy is a bit iffy- it swatched so prettily on the back of my hand but on the lips, unless applied sheerly, looks too light and a little odd on me. Nevertheless, I'm a huge fan of the texture and sheerness of the Revlon lip butters and I'll definitely pick up Cherry Tart when the next sale comes around.

'Now what about that makeup diet, hey?' I hear you ask. Er... yeah. Another lapse, but this deal was too good to pass up. :) On a separate note, I was mooching round Myer on Queen St Mall today and had a really good time swatching things and seeing things that I'd only ever seen on blogs and Youtube videos before. The girl at Benefit was really nice and applied Coralista on me, giving me tips on how to apply blush properly hehe. They've got the kits coming out in a couple of weeks- I like the look of the Coralista one with a mini High Beam, a mini Cha Cha Tint, a mini Coralista and a mini Coralista lip gloss. Eyeing it for Christmas time. :D The MAC lady was nice too, and after lots of swatching, I affirmed Viva Glam V's top position on my after-exam-period wishlist.

Thanks for reading, take care and God bless!

  1. :O When I bought two RLB last month, I got the exact same colours! Berry Smoothie and Cotton Candy. I love both but I prefer cotton candy a bt more :)
The GWP looks like really good value. And the sample of the colorstay foundation is so cute!

    1. Hahaha twinnies! It was a great deal ^__^ And the Colorstay tube is teeny, but it's 15mL which is a decent amount to sample. :) x

  2. How funny - that Benefit kit is the exact one I bought from Sephora in NYC! :) I like everything except I'm not overly keen on the Coralista lip gloss, mainly because I have minimal interest in lip gloss and the scent was a bit overly sweet for my tastes. But I loved the mini Cha Cha Tint and Coralista blush, plus the adorbs little brush that comes with it!

I was curious about the Revlon cream shadow stick as well, especially after hearing Amarixe giving it a positive review. I opted not to buy it though, and I think I made the right choice judging from your post. I've contemplated buying Cotton Candy a few times, but I think it's still too blue-toned on my lips and quite glittery. The nail polish would be fun and bright for summer :)

    1. I want to try High Beam and a tint and a Benefit Box 'O Powder, so the kits look perfect! I'm sad that I missed the Powda Wowza box with Hoola/Coralista/Bella Bamba, but the Benefit girl said those come out around Christmas so yay. And I second the lack of keen for lip gloss.
I've enjoyed playing with the products from the promotion- I don't think I would ever go out and buy each of these items full priced.
