Just A Dream

As everyone seems to obsessing over the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch highlighting concealer, I thought I'd buy one to see what the fuss was about. I don't have bad under eye circles or bags, but I do have some darkness and thought this might fix that up. I bought the shade 02 Nude, as 01 Ivory was much too light, and 03 Sand was the same shade as my skin tone, which wouldn't brighten or highlight on me. 02 Nude is a light yellow, which makes it ideal for under eye concealing.

It's a standard highlighting concealer, with a click pen brush applicator and it comes about half full. The American version has a clear tube so the product is visible, but the version sold in Australia does not. Holding it up to the light does the trick though, and for $18 RRP, you don't get very much product. The packaging clearly hasn't been given enough thought, because the name of the shade is on the sticker used to seal the cap, and obviously when you crack it open, you throw the sticker out and thereby lose the shade name. The shade name isn't indicated anywhere else on the tube.

The consistency of the product is thicker than I'd prefer, and it only blends easily immediately after dispensing. It brightens the under eye area nicely, but I wouldn't use it to highlight the face because the way it looks after it dries can look unnatural. The main reason I don't like it because it has shimmer, which isn't visible under artificial light or natural light indoors so I didn't see it when I swatched it instore, but when it's on the face and even in indirect daylight the shimmer is visible. Perhaps Maybelline NY thought it would help with the highlighting, but I don't like it and I won't buy it again. I'm not often disappointed by Maybelline- I use several of their products everyday, but this one won't be making its way into my routine.

  1. Thanks for the review, quite a few people like this product.
I don't like shimmer or click pen brush applicators :P so I don't think I'll be giving this one a go.

    1. So many people love it! I wanted to like it too, but I think Laura Mercier Secret Concealer is the One for me. :) x

  2. Concealer is one of those things where getting a good shade match is so imperative - I'm not sure if light pink would work on me. The shimmer also doesn't sound like something that looks natural and undetectable :p But I have heard good things about this product - though I'm not really big on concealer, so after your review I will definitely give it a pass!

    1. I think a good shade match is more important for blemish concealing than undereye concealing, but the Laura Mercier Undercover ticks both those boxes so I'm sticking to that. :) x

  3. When I started to see a lot of reviews for this pop up, I was wondering if it was actually that good and didn't really appeal to me. I'm definitely not too fond of a "click pen brush" applicator- sometimes the concealer doesn't dispense when you click it and after a few more clicks too much product comes out. At $18 it isn't very cheap either! Shame it didn't turn out the way you wanted it to!
