Healthy With Bourjois

Since my first foray into the Bourjois Healthy Mix formula, I've since purchased two more products from the Healthy Mix line. Funnily enough, I haven't tried the original Healthy Mix foundation, but this is my little overview of the Bourjois bases that I have.

I still love the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation in 53 Light Beige and it's my go-to when the weather isn't sweltering. The colour match is great for me in summer, but in the cooler months it's too dark and yellow-based.  It claims 16 hours of wear, but I have combination skin, and it fades after about 8 hours, which is a bit disappointing but it's only light coverage so it's not surprising. The 'gel', very emollient consistency is easy to blend out with fingers and brushes, and the semi-matte finish looks natural and never cakey. It's very heavily fragranced (it smells like CHANEL Perfection Lumiere- a light fruity, apricot scent), so sensitive skins should watch out but I like it and it's one of my favourite foundations to date.

I bought the Healthy Mix Correcting Concealer in 53 Dark Radiance after reading MeganIsobel say it was better than the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer, and it was among the few products I brought with me on my holiday. I like the oil-free, moisturising formula and the packaging is  more sanitary than a foam applicator. The consistency is good, it's easy to blend, the coverage is passable, though I'd prefer it to have more coverage as it blends so easily.

The Healthy Balance Unifying Powder in 53 Light Beige is rumoured to be a dupe for the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, but as I'm not familiar with those I can't say it is. It's very finely milled and doesn't look powdery on the skin, and it provides the slightest coverage. I was looking for a powder that matched me in the summer, as my other powders were either translucent or too light. I was tiring of Maybelline's Dream Matte and thought it looked a little powdery on, so I bought this on sale a while ago and it's all I've been using since. It promises 10 hours of wear, which isn't realistic for people going places with things to do, and you wouldn't find anything more than traces of it after 10 hours. I don't see the results of any 'Asian fruit therapy', but it does mattify and it doesn't dry out my (oily) skin, so maybe the Sharon fruit and Yuzu fruit are do something, but I'm sceptical about the fruity formula. Oddly, the powder also has the same scent as the foundation and concealer, but I'm not too bothered by it.

I've come to like and trust Bourjois as brand after their products consistently impress, but I haven't tried any of their lip products. They're one of the pricier brands, but are surprisingly more affordable than Revlon's offerings, especially the foudations. I can heartily recommend giving Bourjois a go. They smell WAY better, for starters. :)

  1. I really want to try the Healthy mix foundation! It's on my foundation wish list along with Rimmel Wake me up and Revlon Colorstay. Not sure which one to try first though!

    1. I've tried Colorstay and I hate the smell, but if coverage is what you're after, definitely go for that. It makes the most sense to get a full coverage foundation and apply it sheerly with a sponge for lighter coverage, but I personally can't stand the feeling of it on the skin. Rimmel Wake Me Up is nice, but I don't like the sparkles. :/ x

  2. Bourjois is such an interesting brand! I don't own a lot of their products because it's not available in Italy but I love what I've tried so far.

  4. I've really fallen in love with Bourjois and they always do amazing Priceline GWP's as well! I think 53 is a tad too light for me so I'm saving it for Winter now. It's currently at my boyfriends house so that I can free up room in my makeup drawers and to stop me from reaching for the wrong shaded foundation :P

    1. Haha that's a good way of getting it out of the way! I might have to get 52 to mix it with for winter. :) x

  5. I've heard so much about the Healthy Mix foundation and although I do want to try it, I think the fragrance will probably break me out and I need higher coverage.
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    1. It does say it's hypoallergenic, if that helps. Such a pity though, as it's a great foundation. :) x

  6. I have the original Healthy Mix but I haven't tried any of their other products yet. I love its scent, despite it being very strong- it just smells amazing! I love how the foundation doesn't look cakey and I definitely agree with you that it doesn't last for 16 hours (what a huge claim!). It's strange that a powder can smell so heavily fragranced too. What a shame that the concealer didn't have better coverage- it's what we're all looking for in a concealer haha!

    1. I love the scent of the blushes too! The quality of Bourjois products is really consistently good. The coverage isn't bad, but sometimes I just use concealer and powder so I'd like it to be almost full coverage. :) x

  7. I love the Healthy Mix Serum foundation too but I haven't tried any of their other base products. I'm too getting tired of my Maybelline Dream Matte powder, so I've already bought a Rimmel one for the day it runs out :D xx

    1. I have to thank you for introducing me to Bourjois and Healthy Mix! The Dream Matte isn't as good as everybody says, I think it's pretty powdery and obvious on the skin. I was tempted by Stay Matte but I'm glad I went for Bourjois. :) x

  8. I've been hearing so much about the collection 2000 concealer and I'm really keen to find a replacement for my (ridiculously overpriced) bobbi brown concealer stick, do you think it lives up to the hype?? I'm hoping it comes in a shade dark enough for my dark olive skin...

    1. Unfortunately this is the darkest shade and it suits light medium skintones, around MAC's NC25-30. Bourjois' only downfall is that they don't create shades to accommodate more tanned skins. I've never tried the Collection 2000 or Bobbi Brown concealers, but I do really like the Bourjois concealer! :) x

  10. I do find Bourjois's base products to be uniformly really good, though I have yet to try the concealer. It is a very raved about product though! I agree Healthy Mix Serum doesn't last all that long - especially in hot weather, but I usually prefer lighter coverage so it doesn't bother me too much. I'm still using the powder and fairly happy with it, though I'm curious to try either the Maybelline Dream Matte or Rimmel Stay Matte powders :)

    1. I've hit pan on the Dream Matte but I'm not a fan. The only thing I like about it is the packaging, because the mirror is so handy. It sits on top of the skin and looks powdery, which the Bourjois doesn't. :)
