Hit and Miss

On a recent trip to Priceline, I picked up the Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil and the Face of Australia Lip Quench Moisturising Lipstick in Lychee Crush.

I've never touched a brow pencil before, but after trying Rimmel's version from a friend's stash I soon bought the same one. The Rimmel Professional Brow Pencil in Black Brown is a rarity, as there aren't many products that suit Asian brows that are also decent value for money. It's nicely pigmented but not to the point where it's difficult to control (Bobbi Brown Mahogany is a sad example of being hard to manage), and the colour is ideal to match my undyed black hair. It comes with a little groomer on the lid, so that comes in very handy to blend out the product. After filling in sparse areas I usually run some of Ardell's Brow Sculpting Gel through my brows to finish. Very happy with this, and it fills the void in my getting ready routine that I neglected for some time.

The Face of Australia Lip Quench moisturising lipstick in Lychee Crush sounded so promising. A huge hit among Australian bloggers, it was extremely difficult to locate for months. I'd seen swatches and heard great things about the formula, which boasts SPF30+, jojoba oil and vitamin E. The warm pink-nude is so pretty, but when applied it's wholly unflattering and washes me out. Maybe it's my tan, or maybe it's the fact that my lips are naturally a dark rose pink, but either way, it's not making another appearance any time soon. :( I've given up on nude lipstick, and will stick to the medium pinks and peaches henceforth. :)

  1. Thats a very nice shade! I'm the same as you, i've totally given up on nudes haha, however saying that... Revlon's lipstick in 'mauve in over' is extremely promising and I'm sure it'll suit you too! Try it out :)
I've also been using rimmel's eye pencil for years, and even now I still don't even leave it behind for more expensive stuff. Just isn't necessary as they're already awesome!

    1. I've heard lots of good things about Revlon's Mauve It Over but they're not sold in Australia! I'll definitely give it a go if I find it. :) xx

  2. Loving the eyebrow pencil. I would get it if I haven't already got a good one :)

Sorry about the lipstick. I'm sure you will find a better one next time. :)

  3. That eyebrow pencil looks pretty good! I am in the same boat as you about the lipstick! It looks so pretty swatched but on my lips it looks much too light and cool toned.I have tried using a warm lipstick underneath and it seems to make it more wearable.

  4. I can relate to this post so much! I have a Rimmel brow pencil and I think it's great quality. I think 'Brown Black' must be a new shade, I bought 'Dark Brown' a while ago and still find it a little hard to wear since I have undyed black hair. Perhaps I will have to get 'Brown Black' some other time. I too bought Lychee Crush after the hype and it was a major disappointment. It doesn't suit me at all! We must have around the same skin tone because it washes me out and looks kind of garish. xx

    1. I was so happy to find something like Brown Black- I really want the Lioele Gray Black brow pencil but it's always sold out on their website! And I can thank the blasting Australian sun for making my undyed hair a little brown, so Brown Black suits nicely. Lychee Crush is the biggest let-down I've ever had with a product! It looks awful on me. :( x

  6. I don't like Lychee Crush either :( Even though so many people like it!
It's too patchy and washes me out still... *sigh*

    1. :( I'd pass mine onto a friend but the entire lipstick fell out of the bullet so it's a bit battered. Into the bin it goes.

  7. you're Australian? I've been reading your posts for a couple of months now and I was oblivious to the fact that you were an aussie!

  8. I have both of these, lol! Lychee Crush is okay, I don't think it's terrible on me but I don't love it either. There are much more flattering nudes imo. Sorry it was a disappointment! The Rimmel is handy and my only brow product, I rarely use it but when I do want to fill in my brows and give them a more polished look it does the job!

    1. I'd be happy to find a pretty pink that looks good on me! Never mind nudes! I'm really happy with the Rimmel brow pencil- it's so easy to use!

  9. I was looking at both these products just the other day actually! I was so close to buying the Rimmel eyebrow pencil but I convinced myself that my current eyebrow pencil by Essence still has a while to go before it is finished and that I didn't need it! I had read heaps of hype about the Lychee Crush too but after a swatch at Priceline, I had a feeling it wouldn't be a colour that would suit me- and I agree that it will wash us out! Must be our yellow Asian skintone haha. Nudes don't seem to quite work on me either!

  10. Aww such a shame for the lipstick, it looks like creamy perfection when swatched! I know what you mean though, this has happened to me too often too ):
