5 Product Face

I've always admired 5 Product Face-type posts, especially the ones by ViviannaDoesMakeup (here, here and here), because I love everything about a streamlined routine. More time to sleep, less time to get ready? It's totally up my street and incidentally, my routine has been whittled down to a paltry few. It's something of an everyday makeup routine.

I've been using a really simple, summer-appropriate set of products that don't feel heavy on. Tried to wear foundation, but I just hate the way it feels on the skin, especially when it rains, or when it's hot. As a result, I've turned to concealer, which I've never really appreciated the way I do now. The Bourjois Healthy Mix Correcting Concealer is so easy to use and the consistency is good for both under the eyes and on blemishes. I don't have dark undereye circles so I just use it on blemishes, uneven skintone and redness around the nose. The shade 53 Dark Radiance is a good match for me and I just blend it out with my fingers and a Real Techniques Buffing Brush. Set with Maybelline Dream Matte and an Ecotools domed Bronzer Brush; base done! It's so quick, it only takes about 10 seconds. :) I don't like Dream Matte much, I'm just trying to use it up, and since I have dry skin on my cheeks I just powder down my nose and where I've concealed blemishes and leave my cheeks alone.
My NARS Deep Throat blush has suddenly become really pigmented so I suspect I may have worn through the overspray. I was pretty indifferent about it before, but now I'm appreciating it in all its expensive NARS glory. It's the perfect everyday blush- a pinkish peach with golden sheen and it's very pretty swept on with an Ecotools Mineral Powder Brush.
I was moseying around the MAC counter and wound up having my brows done with Copperplate eyeshadow and I now realise how important is it to do your brows! Partly because she did an amazing job and didn't go crazy (I feared something akin to Wayne Goss' scouse brow). I use Rimmel's Professional Brow Pencil in Black Brown and it does alright. I think the prospect of getting a MAC quad and filling it up has made me a little prejudiced against cheapie Rimmel, but I do like the Black Brown brow pencil because it's hard to find good brow products for Asian hair. I recently ordered that Lioele Grey-Black brow pencil that Jen from frmheadtotoe constantly raves about so I'll give that a go when it arrives. :D I don't bother with mascara but I curl my lashes with the Shiseido eyelash curler and I leave my lids bare. I think it looks a lot fresher and brighter without shadow or liner.
Ordinarily I would go for a lip balm, something like Korres Jasmine lip butter but recently I've been using the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Rose Shimmer, probably because it costs so much more than a lip balm so I feel like I'd better make it worthwhile. It's what a gloss should be in my opinion, not sticky at all- it feels like a balm on the lips but adds shine and moisture and applies neatly with the foam applicator.

Back to class in a couple of days! Going to miss sleeping in and pointless, unproductive days. :(

  1. Since I wake up mostly at 4h45 for work, I try to allow myself only half an hour to get ready, and even then, it's always a real pain to get up in the morning, so I like to rely on a few thrusty favorites too x

    1. I only take half and hour to get ready too! But I look like a hobo student most of the time :/ And yay for trusty favourites! :)

  2. I rarely have time to put a whole face of make up on so this tag is such a good idea!

  6. Nice! I'm gonna look into that Bourjois concealer. So agree about disliking wearing foundation in Summer... It feels like it's melting off my face -.-'

    1. I like the concealer, but it's more or less a thick version of the foundation. :)

  7. I like the concept of this - the whole simplifying your look, using less products, spending less time doing your face (and yes, more sleep in the mornings). But I just fall into such a routine with my makeup - it's more just doing what seems automatic as being the easiest thing with the best result. On weekends I do tend to shake things up a bit and wear less makeup in general, or none at all, because I want my skin to breathe. Glad you're appreciating the NARS :) I've yet to try that Bourjois concealer but I probably will eventually! The Clarins still looks gorgeous and you might as well use it since it's in your possession!

    1. Wearing makeup has become the exception- I'm so lazy that no makeup has become the rule. But hey, it's holidays, and I couldn't care less about putting makeup on when I'm just lazing around the house. I wish I could get an eye look down to an automatic go-to, most of the time I can't be bothered. I'm really liking the Clarins! Though the squeezy element means I get scared it's being used up at an alarming rate haha. x
