Collective Haul

Before and after my Singapore trip I did a bit of shopping- and I thought I'd round up all the products I bought to do a collective haul.

I saw several people mention the Garnier 2 in 1 Gentle Make-Up Remover, saying it was a great affordable eye makeup remover and as I've been wearing liquid liner and Japanese waterproof mascara (you girls who have tried Kiss Me and Majolica Majorca mascaras know just how waterproof they are) on a regular basis I thought I'd give it a go. I absolutely love it- I included it in a Favourites post a while ago because it takes off waterproof eye makeup so well. Fair warning- they have a few variations of makeup removers so to clarify, this is the blue and white bi-phase one for face & eyes.
Like I mentioned in my Top 5 Blushes post, I'm really happy on the blush front. Illamasqua's Zygomatic cream blush fills the neutral-blush-shaped void in my collection and MAC Peaches was a nice blog sale purchase and it's a matte peachy coral that's more suited to warmer months.
The MaxFactor Colour Elixir Giant Pen Sticks were released quite recently and I was fortunate enough to catch them at Target during their $5 off MaxFactor sale, so they were only $4.95! I swatched them all and wanted Designer Blossom and Hot Chocolate but was sick of buying sheer natural shades and bought Vibrant Pink instead, which is a good yard out of my comfort zone. It's a beautiful bold colour that looks really nice on the lips- though it's definitely a 'girls' night out' kind of colour.
I've been buying a bit more nail polish! I purchased Essie's Absolutely Shore from Cosmetics Fragrance Direct for $6 and it's my favourite pedicure shade ever- I tried painting them a different shade but didn't like it as much as Absolutely Shore so I switched it immediately. I also bought Sportsgirl Rose Gold after seeing Lena's post and thought it would be a great top coat. It's surprisingly easy to apply and has the perfect density of glitter particles.
Chemist Warehouse had a Revlon sale a while back, in conjunction with a gift with purchase of the Photoready 3D Volume Mascara so when I was paying for the Revlon Colorstay Base Coat and the lady handed over a free mascara I was very surprised. I've really liked the base coat so far- it's helped my nail polish hold up better than usual.
Lastly is Sally Hansen's Jaded from the Complete Salon Manicure line- a medium turquoise that is so easy to apply with the paddle-shaped brush. I really like it but I prefer Absolutely Shore, even if the Essie formula needs three coats to be completely opaque.

I wanted a new perfume and although I really want CHANEL's Coco Mademoiselle it's just too much money to pay at the moment so my final choices were Vera Wang's Lovestruck or Bright Crystal but I went with Versace Bright Crystal because it was 30mL compared to the 100mL of the Vera Wang, and I'd be more likely to finish it. I generally prefer smaller bottles of perfume because I haven't found The One yet (don't tell me there's a perfume called The One...) and I'd rather purchase smaller bottles to try and use up instead of 100mL bottles that last years on end. Bright Crystal is lovely and wears well on me- it reminds me of Coco Mademoiselle but without the distinctive jasmine note that I love so much. It's a nice fruity floral and thankfully it's not too light, and it's not an evening scent like Clinique Happy. I think Clinique Happy is in fact a daytime scent but it's so mature and elegant I keep it for evenings at the opera and other such events.

In addition to trying out weird and wacky things from Daiso (Butter and Salt Candy, anyone?) and stocking up on Caramel Corn, I bought some essentials like cotton pads and brush cleaner. I like to spot clean brushes with hand sanitiser or a face wipe but deep cleaning brushes is generally a weekly job and I tend to switch between Dove's Foaming Make Up Remover or an ALDI foaming cleanser of my brother's. Finding out Daiso was opening in Queen St Mall delighted me for one main reason- the brush detergent. It's so good at cleaning brushes and it only costs $2.80! The cotton pads are great- the best I've ever used and they cost $2.80 for two boxes. True to the claims- it actually is lint-free and does a better job of removing nail polish than the generic cotton pads I buy from Kmart.

I may have bought an Antipodes cleanser today and I may have just received the Caudalie Must Have Set from feelunique but I want to post about those separately because I'm so excited- my enthusiasm must be contained in a separate post!

  1. I was so impressed with the two bottles of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure that I bought (Commander in Chic and Jaded) that I went and bought two more bottles recently with PL's 50% off SH sale. But I'm not loving the colours (I got Plums the Word and Cafe Au Lait this time) and I think the shininess that I loved was more due to Insta-Dri than the polish itself. Still, the formula and the brush are really good. Glad you like Absolutely Shore and Rose Gold. I use those Daiso cotton puffs as well, fantastic value. Enjoy the Caudalie set :)

    1. I've been having so much fun trying out the Caudalie products! Not a fan of the lip balm- overpriced bog-standard chapstick but the other four are amazing stuff. I have Grass Slipper from the Sally Hansen CSM line as well but apart from adorning leaves on my sister's strawberry manicure I've never used it.

  2. luuurvely haul! I am keen as a bean to pick up the Daiso detergent but it was sold out when I went! I think I might have to try out that Garnier makeup remover when my current one runs out.

    1. The Daiso detergemt is quick to clean synthetic brushes but natural bristle brushes are a nightmare- it foams up so much... Nothing new though. The Garnier is great- I got it on sale for about $6+ and it's the best I've used!

    1. Thanks! It's just your type of blush! Peachy and looks good on fair skin, darker skin- any skintone for that matter!
