May Favourites

This month I travelled to my amazing homeland of Singapore city, ordered quite a few things from the UK and the makeup has drifted away from bronzer and more towards a glowy base and subtle pink cheeks. It's open season for Uni students and the late nights and assignment stress have taken their toll so my skin is not in a good place. I've been trying out new combinations and have settled into a routine to help my skin repair itself. I didn't even see this month's favourites coming to fruition because it's been so hectic, but I'm glad I won't have to miss this month's because I've been using a lot more beauty products than I normally do, of course I feel the need to document these things! (#fwp)

Face of Australia Face Base
Laura Mercier Mineral Powder
The combination of the FOA primer and the LM mineral powder work well together, and the end result is a glowy, medium coverage base that lasts all day. The only downside is not being able to use cream blush with the mineral powder but it's only minor.

NARS Deep Throat
Renewed my love for this peachy pink- I've used it for the majority of the month. When applied with a light hand it gives a healthy peachy flush that makes you look more alive. Possibly my favourite blush, though the Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour is vying for top spot too.

Ecotools Blush Brush
I'd forgotten about this brush for a while but started using it again and I don't know why I stopped. It's excellent for bronzer and blush. I'm trying not to buy any more brushes because the ones I have don't get used enough as it is.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir
This is possibly the most hyped-up skincare item I've seen but the Eau de Beauté has proved itself to be worth every word of praise. I use it as a calming toner on bad skin days (crazy assignments mean late nights- lots of those lately) and it alleviates the redness and calms the breakouts. Can you tell I like it? I've had it for three weeks and sadly it's already half-empty.

Antipodes Juliet Skin-Brightening Gel Cleanser
Sticking with skincare, a general monthly favourite is my latest skincare routine posted here. In particular, the Antipodes cleanser has been a winner. It has shown me how foam should be done. It cleanses well without leaving the skin feeling stripped. Great cleanser.

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
I've been trying really hard to stick to washing my hair every second night even though my Singaporean upbringing has had me shampooing every night for nineteen years, so to keep grease away between washes I spritz a few sprays of this into my roots to freshen up greasy hair and add some volume to the crown.

Versace Bright Crystal
I'm really enjoying this fruity floral. Officially, it's got top notes of yuzu, pomegranate and water (??), middle notes of peony, magnolia and lotus, and base notes of musk, amber and mahogany. Unofficially, and quite bizarrely, my nose picks up the fruitiness of lychee but I may be mistaken. I like the musky, woody base and the scent lasts on me for about a day and a half so I'm happy it works with my body chemistry.
The water notes are supposed to be an 'aqueous, dewy perfumery note that provides freshness and a humid, non dry feel. Opposite to powder'. Thank you, Fragrantica.

Revenge
Such a junky show and the plot is perpetually twisted and entangled in about six different characters' problems but Emily VanCamp is beautiful and I love the wardrobe and makeup of the cast.

Doctor Who
So sad the season's over. Can't wait for the next one. The finale cliffhanger was so good and my fears about the Doctor's name being revealed were unjustified.

Would like to throw in the fact that Real Techniques brushes made it into Taylor Swift's '22' MV. Probably old news, but it's news to me. I must admit- seeing the RT Blush Brush make its cameo in the music video validates its place in my collection just a tiny bit more.

  1. Great faves! I don't watch Dr Who, but I do know that the season finale caused quite the shake up! I really like Revenge too, have you finished the season? The finale was pretty epic! Also I got pretty excited at seeing the blush brush in Taytay's vid haha.

    1. I watched the important clips of the Revenge finale on Youtube! I want them to release an epilogue to give the viewers closure. I'm not a big fan of Taylor Swift- I don't like her super popular super catchy songs- but when I saw the brushes I thought 'this HAS to go into my May Favourites!'

  2. Haha Taylor Swift (or her people) have impeccable taste! ;)

I already photographed my favs before I saw this post and you will see we have one in common - leave you guess which one!

I have been using my Ecotools blush brush lately and my love for it has also been renewed. So soft and goes really well with the Bourjois round blush pots, which I've also been making a point to use since I have a hundred of them.

    1. I'm guessing it's the Beauty Elixir or the dry shampoo! (or Versace Bright Crystal) I haven't used my Bourjois blushes for absolutely ages- I got so sick of the baked powder that I'm more than happy to use non-baked blushes all the time. Hahahaha 'since I have a hundred of them'- now Lena, we know that's not true... you only have, about twenty. :P

    2. Ding ding ding! (at least with your second guess)

Well it's really more like 6, but 20 or 100 is close enough ;)

    1. It's so good! No joke, I had a dream last night where I finished the bottle and it was devastating.

  4. Hey Cherry! I use a cream blush with my LM Mineral Powder! Works well for me... I also add some Nars Orgasm on top too to sort of settle it all.

    1. That's surprising- I've heard celeb makeup artists say to stick with cream-cream and powder-powder because it blends so much better. Interesting to know it works for you.

  6. I didn't know RT was featured in Taylor Swift's video! Product placement? ;)
I've been lusting after 'Deep Throat' for awhile, and I think I'll pick up the FOA primer next :)

    1. I don't think it was, but it makes sense because the bright pink is much more appealing than the regular black varnished handles. The FOA primer is water-based but it's got silicone in it so patch test beforehand so you don't break out from it!
