Metallic Beige

The long-awaited neutral addition to the Color Tattoo line has hit the shelves of Priceline, with the Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 hr Metal eyeshadows sneaking their way onto the stands without much fanfare. There were four shades in total but I gave the darker shades a miss. Inked in Pink was available and swatched very prettily- a pink-gold that would really accentuate blue or green eyes- but I purchased the shade Barely Branded because it's exactly what I've been lemming for lately.

from l-r: White from Metallica, Barely Branded, 1st shade from Seashells

I swatched Barely Branded alongside the white shade from the Jemma Kidd Make Up School Eye Wardrobe in Metallica and the first shade from the Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow palette in Seashells and the pigmentation and staying power of the Maybelline is the stand-out of the three. Barely Branded is the most peachy beige and the warmest, with White being an icy plain white and the 1st shade from Seashells an off-white ivory. But as the Revlon creme shadow palettes have been discontinued, Maybelline's cream shadow offerings couldn't have been released in a more timely fashion.
The texture of the cream shadow is consistent with the other Color Tattoos I have, smooth and silky. It's shimmery without having visible glitter particles and swatches very smoothly, there's no noticeable shimmer even when viewed in direct sunlight. Although it's part of the Metal collection there's no frostiness akin to the metallic sheen on Bad to the Bronze from the permanent line. The neutral beige of Barely Branded is more ideal as a base than the white Too Cool from the permanent line because white has a tendency to alter the appearance of the powder shadow placed atop the cream.
This is definitely one to rival MAC Paint Pots in Bare Study and perhaps the more pink-leaning Let's Skate, so I'm elated to find this instore locally as it's essentially the same thing for only $11.95 AUD RRP.
Just like the Maybelline Color Whispers, of which a limited range of shades has also been released (the ones that I remember are Pink Possibilities, Lust for Blush, Orange Attitude, One Size Fits Pearl, Who Wore It Red-er, Petal Rebel and Mad For Magenta) at $14.95 RRP, I'm unsure if this has been released elsewhere (at other Maybelline stockists) but as is the norm, if it's been launched in Priceline they will probably flow into other stores with time.

  1. Cherie! I am so glad you commented on my blog. When I was overseas I believe you sent me an email...which of course I accidentally deleted. I then returned home and could not for the life of me remember who had sent me the email, until I saw your name come up! I can't find your email address but if you could flick me another one about arranging a Behind the Blog post then I would love that :)

Barely Branded is such a lovely shade. I like that it is a lot warmer than the other two, and I think it would be more wearable and easier to incorporate into more looks. I've not tried any of the Maybelline Colour Tattoos but I think I really should!

    1. Haha we've all accidentally deleted something before! Sure thing- I'll do it soon. The Color Tattoos are good value for money- you should definitely try one or two :) I recommend Bad to the Bronze and Barely Branded.

  2. This one was on my wishlist along with Inked in Pink but I've decided to pass since I bought the Estee Lauder Shadow paint in Halo which is a bit less metallic, more pearlescent and I think a bit lighter and more champagne. I MUCH prefer the EL formula to the maybelline so I'm very happy with it. When I swatched Barely Branded in store though it looked so pretty!

    1. Is yours the same as the new EL Stay On Shadow Paints? I've swatched it and it's a lovely texture. I'm still happy with BB though because the MAC Paint Pots are so similar that they're almost indistinguishable.

  3. None of the new Colour Tattoo shades have tempted me too much so far! I want to have a closer look at Inked in Pink, I would purchase it if it isn't TOO pink leaning (silly, but I don't want to look like I have pinkeye!) x

    1. Inked in Pink is quite pink- I imagine it would REALLY flatter very green or hazel eyes and look a little dodgy on some other eye colours. It was very pretty but completely unlike me. :/

  4. I still have yet to find Barely Branded because it's always sold out in the drugstores in my area but I do own two of the Maybelline Colour Tattoos and like them quite a bit!
I've heard that most of them are pigmented, but not all and it looks like these ones that you've swatched here are on the good side. :)

    1. Temptalia was really impressed with this one so I had high expectations of it! I agree- there are some colours that are particularly lacking.

  5. Barely branded and inked in pink are my two color tattoos I wanna add to my collection! I have wayyy to many pinky toned shadows so I'm a little on the fence with buying inked in pink at RRP-plus it looks pretty similar to my bloom liquid eyeshadow!
Barely branded is definitely on the to-buy list; I can imagine the great longevity on my inner corners :D

    1. Yeah there wasn't a sale on but I thought they would sell out pretty quickly so I nabbed the last one on the stand. Inked in Pink treads a fine line- I barely wear the eyeshadows I love so I don't know how often I'd wear one that I'm on the fence about lol.
Good point- I never blend it into the inner corners, I usually use the highlighter I'm wearing (most occasions MAC Soft and Gentle MSF). Maybe I'll try that next time :)
