Most Used | Face

I've happily settled into my taste in makeup and I'm going to compile my most used products into a series to round up my favourites and firmly declare my loyalty to the products. Long-time readers won't be surprised but I like to think of this as a cataloging process. I've already done Blush and Nail Polish so this one will be base, powder, bronzer and highlighter. I haven't tried many primers and don't have a favourite but I'm currently using Face of Australia Face Base primer. It's alright but its oil control properties are nothing spectacular.

To start with is the one base product that I use multiple times a week. The Skin79 Super+ Triple Functions Beblesh Balm BB Cream SPF25 PA++ is my go-to base for Uni and work. I just find it the easiest option- the coverage is light/medium depending on whether I decide to go back and conceal problem areas with another layer and it's comfortable and weightless on the skin. When I need a bit more coverage, I use a mix of the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation in the shades 52 Vanille and 53 Beige Clair. The Healthy Mix Serum foundation is labelled a light coverage foundation but I find it delivers medium coverage and feels lightweight on the skin and dries to a natural semi-matte finish. It evens out skintone nicely and for hyperpigmentation and blemishes I reach for concealer.

Concealer is something that everybody says you need, but I never realised its importance until recently. The Laura Mercier Undercover concealer duo is my most-used base product and I'll definitely repurchase when I hit pan. The Secret Concealer in SC-3 is the best under-eye concealer I've found but as I don't have severe under-eye bags, it doesn't make a huge difference on me. However, with acne-prone skin, the Secret Camouflage in SC-3 makes all the difference. On lazy days, I prefer to use the Maybelline Fit Me concealer in 20 Sand on redness and blemishes. I also like the Bourjois Healthy Mix Correcting Concealer but I find that one isn't the best for pores and looks cakey and dry around the nose.

Powder is something I used to deem a must-have and although I don't feel as dire a need for it any more, it's something I'll always have in my stash for setting makeup on the t-zone. For a lightweight powder foundation over concealer or for setting BB cream when I need more coverage, I use the long-time favourite Laura Mercier Mineral Powder in Real Sand and Natural Beige. Contrary to the typical powder, the mineral formula doesn't look powdery on the skin at all. The finish is glowy, and it can give light or medium coverage depending on the brush used. To set liquid foundation or concealer, I prefer to use the Bourjois Healthy Balance Unifying Powder in 53 Light Beige all over the face. The powder from the same Healthy line is finely-milled and sheer that's good for setting the base.

l-r: Sunny, 52, Iced Gold, Soft and Gentle
Bronzer isn't something I appreciated until I started watching ViviannaDoesMakeup, and now I see why people love it so. My most reached-for are the very affordable and exclusive NYC Sunny Bronzer and the now-discontinued Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder in 52. The current Bourjois powder bronzer is exactly the same so I may purchase that after I've finished my current compact.

I don't use highlighter on a regular basis- I reserve it as something of a special occasion product, mostly because I prefer to streamline my routine to the bare minimum of steps and highlighter isn't one of them. My favourites are the discontinued Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow All Over Radiance Creme in Iced Gold for a subtler option in cream form and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle for a more dramatic, frostier peachy champagne.

  1. The Healthy mix foundation and BB cream are definitely two of my most used also! I really want to get my hands on the LM mineral powder - it sounds so nice! You got Sunny from Cosmetics Fragrance Direct right? Is it the one in/near central station? Whenever I go past I really want to go in, but my friends (incl. Daph) always leave without me, haha. I'll be sure to check it out next time I'm in the city though.
