Violet Accent

I'm a sucker for a good gimmick and Physician's Formula seem to like them too, because I gaze heart-eyed at their 'Happy Booster' blushes so not too long ago in a Priceline sale I picked up the Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Eyeliner Trio for Brown Eyes with high hopes. They claim the long-wearing, water-resistant and smudge-resistant formula can hold up for 24 hours. After trying the silky Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal pencil liners the bar for eyeliner pigmentation is high and these were a letdown.

I contemplated going for another eye colour's trio but went with brown because MissGlamorazzi made purple eyeliner look so pretty against brown eyes. The trio contains a brown with gold shimmer, a purple and a black with purple shimmer. The colours are pretty and they do flatter brown eyes but the pigmentation is poor and they need to be built up to compare to the inkiness of the Rimmel pencils. Shockingly, these didn't smudge on me but they faded considerably when worn without primer. The shimmer doesn't show up when worn, which means the eyeliners are lacklustre and mediocre, comparable to the quality of the Face of Australia Eye Definers. My mistake was not looking up reviews prior to purchase and the conspicuous lack of testers for eyeshadow and liner at the Physician's Formula stand didn't help.

The pencil is mechanical and winds up but adorably, the bottom of the pencil pulls out to reveal a tiny plastic sharpener, just to shape the point of the liner. I've heard complaints about mechanical pencil-style products like the Clinique Chubby Sticks for Eyes and the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains wearing down to a flat top over time and this small inclusion is thoughtful. I appreciate details like that but quality of the eyeliners lets it down.

  1. I wouldn't have thought these contained any shimmer from the swatch alone - they look totally matte to me! I think without being metallic, it's hard to find a cheap but good quality eyeliner. I think purple does tend to look really nice with brown eyes though, pity these pencils were subpar. I wanted to get that Maybelline aubergine gel eyeliner that Ingrid featured in her vid, but to be honest it's not all that purple and would probably just look like a less pigmented black when worn :p

    1. I know, I couldn't get decent swatches showing the shimmer- it's a shame. I really like gel liner on special occasions but the brush cleaning is too big a commitment haha. The Rimmel ScandalEyes are the best affordable eyeliners I've found. It never occurred to me that purple eyeliners would look like a less pigmented purple!
