August Favourites

I had a good August- Uni kicked off to a fast pace and I cannot believe how quickly this year is flying by. This month's favourites is lacking in the makeup because I shared my everyday makeup routine and I'd prefer not to repeat the products in this post.

Maybelline Color Tattoos in Barely Branded and Bad to the Bronze
I've loved using Bad to the Bronze for over a year now but Barely Branded is a nice counterpart. I like using it on the inner third of the lid to brighten up the usual wash of bronze-taupe over the lid.

MAC Mineralize SkinFinish in Soft and Gentle
I rediscovered this in August and it's such a beautiful, peachy highlighter. The pigmentation of the MAC MSFs is good and from the almost-new appearance, it looks like it will last me a very long time.

L'Oreal Riviera Lavender Vernis
I bought this polish when it was discounted because the L'Oreal Miss Candy collection is no longer being promoted. It's been on my toes all month long and it's very pretty. I adore the formula and the wider brush- it was opaque after only one coat and I like how it's not overly pastel.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask
Winter afflicted some dry patches but this rich moisturiser sorted them out- it smells so good! Although Paula Begoun would beg to differ, it doesn't get better than orange blossom, rosewater and apricot.

Soap & Glory Heel Genius
Soap & Glory Hand Food
This duo keep my hands and feet happy and hydrated, healing the damage caused by drying winter weather, cheap ballet flats and bleach-spiked dishwashing water (welcome to the commercial kitchen).

Lady Gaga Fame EDP
This was a free sample I found in Target and it's pleasant. None of the dark, grotesque funk that Lady Gaga was allegedly brewing up in the perfumery lab- instead it's a warm, fruity concoction with subtle sillage and good lasting power. I don't like it enough to buy the full size but it's nice to have a mini that I can tote around with me.

Moroccanoil Treatment
I bought a mini bottle to try when it was 15% off in a random salon and it's worth the hype. My usual routine is limited to sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner every second night, along with a spritz of dry shampoo between washes. The ends of my hair have been feeling dry and stripped and Moroccanoil leaves my hair feeling smoother, softer and healthier. It smells nice. Disappointingly I found a crack in the bottle's cap when I got home but I'm too lazy to go back to the salon to exchange it. The price makes me wince so I'm using it sparingly. There's more silicone than argan oil in the ingredients but I recently purchased the Swisse Argan Oil so I'll compare them and see how they fare.

I told myself 'Clean Eating Starts Today!' and consummated my resolve with a poached egg on vegetables for breakfast while reading clean eating propaganda. Hopefully I'll have more good-food days than bad ones. Looking forward to a September of clean eating!

  1. Clean eating eh? I can so imagine myself failing hard at that so I won't even attempt to convince myself I could do it :p Though I did have poached eggs and vegetables (steamed spinach) in the morning - with like a sausage, bacon, buttered bread, hash brown, etc :p Lol.

I keep forgetting I even have Morrocanoil. I have this huge bottle and I rarely use it. What are the advantages of using sulphate-free shampoo and what brand do you use? I've been contemplating making the switch but I am quite attached to my Pantene because it just does the job.

I really do like Fame, especially since it reminds me of a good time (my holiday in NYC last September). It's just very pleasant as well, quite feminine and spicy but also relatively restrained. No funky notes. I've also been reacquainting myself with the original Daisy after I bought the Eau So Fresh version. It's growing on me, though there's something in there that doesn't quite sit 100% well with me, probably like the mellow-yet-overly-sweet pear note, almost reminiscent of too ripe, on the verge of rotting fruit.

    1. Hahaha I've concluded I have better concentration if I get exactly 8 hours of sleep and eat a clean breakfast but the getting fit and losing weight goals are for another day lol.

I used to get a little bit of irritation on my scalp and hairline but after I switched to sulfate-free it stopped. I'm using a random cheap one I found in Priceline- Organic Care. I want to try the L'Oreal EverSleek and EverStrong but they're $13 apiece and I'm waiting for a sale (they sold out in the 40% haircare sale).

Aw Lena that's a weird thought- I'll try not to think of rotting overripe fruit when I use Daisy now. :/
