Wispy Pink

The sheer lipstick has become a handbag staple and Maybelline's solution to the Revlon Lip Butter, CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine and L'Oreal Rouge Caresse is the Maybelline Color Whisper lipstick. I've resisted Maybelline's lipsticks until now, but in Priceline's 50% Maybelline sale I allowed myself one, and I settled on Lust for Blush

Lust For Blush is a dusty cool pink. I've heard it compared to MAC Creme Cup, which I always thought was too cool and pale for my skin tone but Lust for Blush's sheerness makes it a flattering nude-pink that's not too pale or cool. It looks better balanced out with blush and something on the eyes.

I'm learning to dislike shimmer in lipsticks- one of the reasons why I've never ventured into Maybelline's offerings before- and I'm relieved that the shade range of the Color Whispers have creme finishes. The glossiness is similar to the Revlon lip butters but the texture is much thinner and more emollient with similar wear time, namely until your next meal. The Bourjois Colour Boost are more pigmented, the L'Oreal Rouge Caresse are thicker, the Revlon lip butters have shimmer and heavier consistency.
Packaging isn't much to comment about- the closure is flimsy and can easily come undone in a tote bag. I like that, like Revlon, they've coloured the tube according to each shade for easy identification. The shades Orange Attitude and Pink Possibilities called out to me but they bear striking resemblance to Revlon's Tutti Frutti and Sweet Tart, which I've resisted thus far and have no need for. I'll be interested to see what other bloggers have to say about the shades in way of dupes.

The US has 20 shades to pick from and we have a mere 8. The Color Whisper line has been stocked at most Maybelline retailers that I've seen- so it's worth having a swatch of the limited range of shades if you're into sheer lipsticks (and having a taste of each brand's version). The ultimates in this department are the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine and CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine but as they're approximately $50 I'm rainchecking those for a worthy occasion. The Maybelline Color Whispers cost $14.95 RRP but getting them half-price doesn't hurt either.

  1. Ahhh yes, the YSL Shines. One day perhaps! I heard Revlon have brought out a new finish to their Super Lustrous lippies - Shine finish? I assume they're similar as well. I didn't love the texture of these - too creamy for my tastes. I prefer something that sinks into the lip rather than something that feels like it's sitting on top of the lip. I think it's more purple and dustier than Creme Cup, which is more warm pastel pink (paler too).

    1. Haha I'll leave the duping to the expert :P I agree it's got a bit of slip but not so much like the FOA lip crayons. I've not heard of the Super Lustrous shines- I know Bourjois are doing a Shine lipstick! Gah too many to keep track.

  2. I've had my eyes on this particular product for a while now but I never wanted to purchase it full price because I'm not sure how much I'll wear it. It seems like quite a good, wearable shade though. I'll have to give it a go.

    1. I didn't want to buy it full price either! I'm trying them out of interest than out of necessity- I feel like I need to dabble in every brand's version :/ It's bad- I need to curb this.
