2014, A New Year

As yet, my new year is looking up. It's been restful, rewarding and productive. I recently came home from a trip to Quanzhou, Xiamen and Wuyi Shan in China, I'm trialling contact lenses for the first time, and I've bought a few products since my last post.

Midway-up the climb on Wuyi Mountain.

Stillness at the base of Wuyi Mountain.

On Gulangyu island looking onto Xiamen on the mainland.

I finally bought MAC's lipstick in Shy Girl from Duty Free at Brisbane International Airport Departures, I'm so glad I did because it's every bit as pretty and wearable as Lena made it out to be. Thanks Lena!
On a wander around Westfield Garden City I purchased a box of My Beauty Diary Sake Yeast Masks from an Asian beauty store called Sakura Cosmetics and a Holika Holika Jewel-Light Waterproof Eyeliner in 01 Black from a MyCube shop, which isn't as creamy as Rimmel's ScandalEyes version but has better staying power.
Now it's just a matter of getting back into routine, readjusting to the blasted Australian summer heat and eating clean to shed the pudge gained from eating too much good food.

  1. Coming back home after a holiday is comforting and saddening at the same time. Even looking at pictures makes me itch for more travel. If that's the only makeup you bought on your holiday, you are a well restrained woman compared to I. x

    1. I didn't actually buy any products when I was in China- I bought the MAC lipstick from DF when we were leaving Brisbane because it was $29, so compared to the usual $36 it just made sense. I'm going back to Singapore for Easter break, which I'm SO looking forward to! Love love travelling.

  2. Your trip looks wonderful! I haven't been back there since I was little. The lippie looks really appealing!

    1. It was beautiful! And I expected Shy Girl to be too pale to work on my colouring without a seriously heavy eye going on but when applied lightly it looks great!

  3. Stunning pictures - I actually want to travel more around China but not sure when I'll have the opportunity. Some of the scenery is just too beautiful. I can relate with the holiday pudge - definitely overindulged but what's new! So glad you like Shy Girl :) Cute Penguin books cup by the way - have you seen the film adaptation of Jane Eyre with Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender?

    1. This trip showed us what was probably the most beautiful scenery we've experienced yet! Nanjing was mostly museums and a touristy program and Harbin was a wintry wonderland but the winter climate of Fujian is crisp and the mountains and quarries and inlets are beautiful. Definitely not a stranger to holiday pudge- I spend the rest of the year working it off and then bam back it comes.
I don't think an opaque application of Shy Girl could work on me without a smokey eye but when patted in it works so well!
I haven't seen the film, no, but I'll be sure to watch it once I've finished reading the book! I'm progressing very slowly because I keep finding other, more fast-paced books to read in between.

  4. Ooo Shy Girl. I have that shade but haven't reached for it. You make me want to pull it out again. Ahhh Lena, that is her name...I have been wondering what her actual name is because she is one of my absolute favorites to read. Beautiful photots, you make me want to travel ASAP :)

    1. Thank you! And yes Lena's amazing at what she does over at sleepandwater! Shy Girl is so pretty- I'm hoping it'll prompt me to wear more on a more frequent basis because it doesn't sit nicely on a minimally made-up face and I need to get some wear out of it.
