Spot Indifference

I like to think I've left most of my acneic skin days behind along with my teens and high school but my current skincare issue is cystic hormonal blemishes and the hyperpigmentation from the scars they leave behind. Without resorting to prescription medication and all-over chemical creams, a few other products to treat and prevent hormonal acne come to mind, and the most prominent of them is the Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. I purchased mine from Mecca Maxima (also available at Kit Cosmetics). It's the deep, cystic blemish-targeting relation of the better-known Drying Lotion, which is aimed at whiteheads.

The reviews I had read prior to purchasing were positively giddy with wondrous awe, so the hopes were high. In my experience of using the Buffering Lotion, I've found it to speed up the process of a cystic blemish's cycle but it doesn't shrink it away miraculously. It doesn't 'magic' it away. The application process isn't something I'm used to, shaking up the bottle to combine the liquid with the white sediment that settles on the bottom and applying a few drops to the burgeoning blemish without it running or dripping. I tried it on a couple of spots and they didn't seem significantly affected by the Buffering Lotion- they didn't respond to it immediately, but after a 2-3 days they healed up. I don't know if I like it enough to say I'll make sure it's always around in my skincare arsenal; while it's not ineffective, I'm not in love.

  1. I definitely agree, though I find it quite hard to tell with spot treatments, especially with cystic acne. I do quite like this one though, it's probably the most effective I've yet found for cystic acne, but I feel like there could be better out there.

    1. Agreed! It's not bad, but not much else can be done for these types!

  2. Thanks for the review! I am a big fan of the Drying Lotion but I've never tried this one before. I too struggle with cystic acne on my chin. I have yet to find the perfect solution for the problem.

    1. I haven't tried the Drying Lotion but people rave about it! And I think most of us are in that same boat- no perfect solution. :(

  3. Thanks for the review! I'm seriously considering getting it because I've been struggling with 4 cystic pimples on my chin that won't seem to go away no matter what I do (its been weeks) and I'm getting desperate. Haha!
Btw, I'm going to try unfollowing and following you again on GFC to see if that works in getting your posts in my feed. I can see your posts through bloglovin but not through GFC :(

    1. It's quite a bit of money to pay for a spot treatment but I'm glad I have something for when my skin direly needs it. I didn't know changing my URL would mess things up so much- sorry about that, and thank you for letting me know Sheri!
