A Lot of Money

I used to do these 'how much does my makeup cost' posts on an annual basis and I thought I'd pick it up again- I quite like the idea of weighing up how much my face of slap costs and how it compares to what I used to wear. My number went from $150 in 2012 to $202 in 2013. For purpose of this exercise I chose the products that I used when going out to dinner last month, so that it wouldn't just be what I normally wear on an everyday basis because I've been posting about that quite frequently. In actuality I don't normally wear makeup to go to class, to church, out with the boyfriend. Sometimes I feel like wearing it to class, most days I don't.

We'd just come from a day out so I had to take a tissue to my face to prep the skin for makeup and I slicked some Laura Mercier Mineral Primer ($25) on my skin so that makeup goes on more smoothly and the pores don't show through.
I had only been in possession of the NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer in Custard ($35) for a couple of days so I was trying it out and used it on discolouration and redness, patting it in (with flawless results) before buffing a bit of Laura Mercier Mineral Powder in a mix of Real Sand and Natural Beige ($45 each but let's count just one) on top with the EcoTools Mineral Powder Brush ($10 in set) for super easy light coverage.

Blush is one of my favourite parts of makeup and the Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Lush Nectarine ($30) is a gorgeous peachy pink that I got a couple of years ago that I forget about, then pick back up, then forget about again. I applied that with the E.L.F. Blush Brush ($8), which I spoke about a while ago. I put a little bit of Sleek Face Form Contour Kit in Light ($8.50) on as well, using the same brush as my mineral powder.

I'll confess at the point- I applied everything else in the front seat of a moving car but when I got to eye makeup I had to stop and wait until we had parked. I have gotten so lazy with eye makeup that even eyeliner has been relegated to the 'dressier' times. I still love the Holika Holika Jewel-Light Waterproof Eyeliner in Black ($11), which I posted about ages ago comparing it to the Rimmel ScandalEyes and Physician's Formula liners. I stand by that. I curled my lashes and applied some Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Edge Meister mascara ($25), which is definitely not a step for a moving car, because the staying power of this mascara is crazy strong.
Given the going-to-dinner aspect of the evening, I didn't bother with lipstick but if I did, I would have used MAC Shy Girl lipstick ($29 bought from Duty Free), because it's a very pretty peachy colour that's perfect for a slightly stronger eye look.

The total comes to $226.50! Eep! I've legitimately never been this shocked at my total before. It's a hard pill to swallow- I didn't think it would be that high. Quality over quantity, maybe? I think over the years I've just sifted through the stocks and found what I like and it just added up over time. If you like the sound of doing 'How Much Does My Makeup Cost?' post, do go for it! I love reading these types of posts, and nosying through my non-makeup-obsessed friends' pouches to see what kind of products they use!
