Piece o' Cake

It feels so good to have a midyear break! I've been spending my previous couple of weeks busy in the kitchen, where I love whipping eggs and sifting flour to make food and baked goods. I'm also getting back into reading- finishing off a couple of books that I've had around for a while now. Another thing I'm finishing are beauty products, so you may see a picture or two of those pop up soon. Hope everybody's enjoying the gorgeous weather that both hemispheres are experiencing at this time of year!

Peter and I made lemon meringue pie! (A little bit imperfect because I didn't fully dissolve the sugar into the meringue so you can see the dots of sugar crystals.) I've made it before but using frozen pastry and now that I've made the real deal, I can't go back! It just doesn't compare and shortcrust pastry is so easy to whip up.

Got a haircut! Went to Just Cuts at Indooroopilly and a lovely guy named Marcus did a fantastic job of giving me a good blended trim and quick little treatment. My hair felt so much better and healthier afterward and I'm really liking the feeling of having less hair to deal with. Trying out the new Tresemme Perfectly Undone shampoo and conditioner so I'll see how that goes.

Peter and I (mostly Peter) made croissants! A 2-day job making and laminating the pastry and butter. Some had a few sneaky squares of Cadbury's Dairy Milk in the middle.

Picked up my film photos from developing! My friend Jess at breakfast several months ago at Felix for Goodness in Burnett Lane: 'Stay put, I'm going across the road to take a photo.'

Photos from Redcliffe on my early birthday fun day out back in April.

My favourite Stolen Recipe watermelon raspberry iced tea and my favourite jumper in the car on the way to church camp!

Panorama of our standard church camp grounds at PCYC Bornhoffen in the Gold Coast hinterland. Gorgeous scenery and such beautiful chilly weather!

Peak of Swiss meringue buttercream!

3 layers of chocolate cake filled with sliced strawberries and chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream tinted with passionfruit for a few friends that my mum was having over for lunch.

We've been meaning to return to Miel Container for burgers (I've only been twice in the past year) and we went on the day of the French Festival after finding out you had to pay for entry so we had a date night in the city instead. I was super satisfied with my custom burger (beef patty, cheddar, iceberg lettuce, tomato, spiced gherkin, dill mayo and bush tomato chutney on brioche) and we decided it was the best burger in Brisbane in terms of value for money and the quality of the food, albeit quite a ways from where either of us live.

We went to see Jurassic World, which was a really good movie (and I've seen the 3 Jurassic Park movies multiple times and am scared witless without fail) at Event Cinemas in Myer Centre and played 3 games of shooting hoops at the basketball ring arcade game in Funhouse. Wanted a drink at 7-Eleven and couldn't be bothered waiting for the Slurpee machine to finish churning so I got Nutrient Water instead and I don't rate this flavour at all. Avoid it!
