August Favourites

This month's favourites is themed 'dying in the workplace' because I started workplace practicum on the 4th and I spent all month long adjusting to the hours, restless sleep and troubled skin that resulted from this transition. I wasn't sleeping as soundly as I used to, and my skin decided it would be opportune to sprout some spots worthy of my prepubescent days. Wearing makeup on a near-daily basis meant I started to take cleansing more seriously so all up my skincare arsenal is in a good place at the moment.

Maybelline Master Precise liquid liner
I've been feeling the long days that fly by but leave you drained of life and I've put together a routine of sorts when it comes to makeup. I've been going for a glowy base with the Laura Mercier Mineral Powder in Real Sand, standard. After dusting on a bit of bronzer (Bourjois) and blush (NARS), I've been applying a swipe of liquid eyeliner when I'm afforded the extra 5 minutes. The Maybelline Master Precise liquid liner felt tip pen is the bomb diggity- it's inky, not too wet, not too stiff to apply and it lasts. Easy to draw on (though I use cotton buds and a dab of Dr Lewinn's Multi Moisture Balm to help neaten up the line on the days the hand is shaky), doesn't move until you take it off at the end of the day and doesn't irritate the eyes, unlike a Face of Australia liquid liner I tried once that actually stung. I do wear this with eye primer- Etude House Proof 10 eye primer- but it's so easy to use and sticks around for up to 13 hours if I haven't washed it off by then.

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Pink Blossom
Keeping with the 'dying in the workplace' theme, this tinted lip balm has been a handbag staple all month long- I received it in the Priceline skincare bag and I was so happy to find it was wearable medium pink! I love tinted lip balms for fuss-free lip colour and care so this has replaced the lip balm + lipstick process for me at work. The beeswax base keeps lips happy and the tint gives just enough colour without fear of it smudging onto my teeth or tea mug.

Sanctuary Spa Ultimate Facial Cleansing Oil
Since I started wearing makeup more often (about 5 days a week), I don't want to use harsh cleansers especially after removing makeup with Swisspers wipes so I decided to try this cleansing oil with my Priceline cashback voucher. I'd never tried cleansing oils prior to this but I'm so glad I have now because this dissolves makeup (including very waterproof mascara!) and while the texture is oily, adding some water and massaging it on the face emulsifies the oil to help it rinse off. It leaves skin feeling cleansed and supple, and while I was a bit worried that the jojoba oil content might cause a negative reaction and clog pores, break me out, etc I haven't experienced anything of the sort!

Sukin Super Greens Detoxifying Clay Masque
I finished a tube of Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque (standard, I've featured about 5 empty tubes on the blog during the 3 years I've used it) and cracked this little deluxe sample pot open to try it out. I've been leaving it on for the recommended 15 minutes, which I don't normally do these days but I think leaving it to dry and taking the remnants off with a warm damp flannel has worked wonders for my skin. The mask is has no nasty chemical ingredients, it applies easily and dries down to harden slightly but washes off without leaving the skin feeling taut or uncomfortable. I haven't been doing clay masks recently and going from weekly mask sessions to no mask sessions has some repercussions. Going in with this Sukin mask has helped clear up small bumps and some of the nastier spots on my face that have been cropping up and it only takes about 15 minutes before I shower in the evening. Sometimes I even do a hair mask or put my conditioner in to make the most of the wait, while I watch Youtube videos on my phone.

La Roche-Posay Sensi White Cream
I like this- it's in my favourites because I've been especially impressed with the results I've been seeing. I already liked the Sensi White formula after trying the Essence, and this has a lighter gel-cream texture than the essence, which probably absorbs better. It yields visible results ON ME in as little as a week, and makes me happy to see the dark scars of cheek blemishes fading. One cheek's scars are almost completely gone, and the other cheek's still going but it's getting there.

Herbal tea
I've been drinking multiple mugs of black/green tea throughout the day and after about 2 days of doing that I knew I had to shake it up and steer clear of it for a while so I now alternate between black tea and herbal tea. I've been liking Twinings Camomile & Spearmint tea, which is calming and feels cleansing, though whether or not it actually does anything for your digestive system remains to be seen. As this is my last packet, which I saved specially for this Monthly Favourites post, I'm all out of tea and I'm eyeing up the Kromland Farm Rooibos Tea for my next tea adventure- the caramel or raspberry flavours look especially enticing!
