November Favourites

The past month has been one of treating my hair well, taking care of my skin, and getting my health and fitness on track. November was stinking hot, and it's only going to get hotter. I had a good November in other aspects too- my internship turned into paid work and the 2015 academic year came to an end, so I only have one semester of University left before graduation! I don't have any grand plans for the summer break- I'm just working full-time and taking a week off to go to an annual Bible Training Conference in January. I'm planning on doing 12 Days of Christmas blogposts in the lead-up to the 25th, as I'm a bit too busy to do 25 consecutive days of blogging.

Lush Yellow FUN
This bizarre Play-Doh-for-the-bathroom has become one of my favourite Lush scents because it contains two of my favourites: vanilla and gardenia. I would much rather use it from a liquid or solid instead of a plasticine but it's not too much hassle for what it's worth. I pinch a bit off and use it as a soap. I've almost finished it but I've got the apple-scented Santa's Belly shower jelly lined up so I'm not upset about using it up!

Lush BB Seaweed Fresh Face Mask
I finished this up so I don't have a photo to show, but you can look it up on the Lush website here. Fresh Face Masks don't have a good rep from Paula Begoun (I can't find a link on her new website so she must have taken the review down) but I had a look at these ingredients and decided I'd give it a go because the aloe, kaolin, honey, olive oil and seaweed sounded like a dream for my skin, and a nice change to straightforward clay masks. If I remember correctly, the issue that some skincare experts have with Lush is that load of unnecessary fragrant essential oils that are not necessarily beneficial and can inversely cause irritation, but I used this up in 3 weeks and didn't experience any irritation. The only bone I have to pick with BB Seaweed is that it's messy to apply and wash off, like most Lush Fresh Face Masks- I had the same issue with Catastrophe Cosmetic. I enjoyed this, and I'll certainly trade in 5 pots to get a new FFM but I might try Brazened Honey instead.

Maybelline New York Lash Sensational Waterproof
When I saw the waterproof formula of this Lash Sensational mascara in Priceline during their 40% off cosmetics sale I was so excited. I'm quite fussy with mascaras because I want separation and no-smudge-waterproof staying power and most drugstore mascaras droop immediately after application but I heard fantastic things about this mascara and Maybelline generally do waterproof better than other drugstore brands (Full 'N Soft waterproof is one of my favourite natural-looking mascaras). After trying this one out for a couple of weeks I can say- the hype be real. It gives good volume, lengthens, separates and defines, all with waterproof staying power that I'm happy with. I think the brush is good at separating the lashes- I find some plastic brushes tend to clump lashes together but this one is a winner.

Lioele Pop Orange Tint
I love my lip tints and stains because they are a low-maintenance alternative to lipstick and lip gloss and this Lioele Pop Orange Tint is quite possibly my favourite. It's featured on my blog a number of times and I picked it up again in November and it's such a pretty coral colour that brightens up the face.

Zassni Orchard Dew Botanical Mist
I received this in the goodie bag from The Doll Connection and I've been spritzing away because this facial mist is so refreshing. It has lime, cucumber and aloe and while I'm not sure about its beneficial properties, I think it's a perfect refresher for hot summer days.

L'Oreal Elvive Anti-Frizz Smoothing Serum with Argan Oil
I bought this serum quite a while ago and I wanted an alternative to Morrocanoil and tried this out one morning, distributing a generous couple of pumps into the lengths of my hair, which is now considerably more fragile from being dyed. This serum did amazing things to my hair- I was speechless when I felt my hair the day after, even after a wash, my hair was soft, nourished and smooth.

L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Nourishing Masque
There are a few lines of L'Oreal branded haircare and I loved the sulfate-free line of shampoo and conditioner for years but this is the first time I've posted about Elvive products in my favourites. This Extraordinary Oil range is new and targets dry and frizzy hair so that the oil can smooth and sleek the hair down. This mask is unique because it's only meant to be in the hair for 1-2 minutes after shampooing and conditioning. I'm used to leaving hair masks in for 10-15 minutes to get the most out of them but this does a great job in the few minutes required. I included a photo of the texture of the mask because I think this soft, fluffy cream sinks into the hair astonishingly quickly - I usually limit the amount I pack into my hair because I feel like I could pack half the jar into my hair but that would go into cannot-wash-out-without-leaving-residue-that-weighs-the-hair-down territory. It smells pleasant, almost luxuriant, and I really like both these products to help my dyed-and-damaged hair out.

Health and Fitness
I've been going running with my dog and doing Pilates. I've also been trying to eat clean, both at home and when I'm out at work. At home, eggs are my best friend- I love having them poached in almost every meal. Drinking >2L water, trading some of it for green tea, having smoothies and salads all contribute to feeling better physically and mentally. When I'm out I've been considering what to buy, like opting for avocado on toast instead of a ham and cheese croissant. It doesn't hurt that the avo toast downstairs at my work comes with feta and a delicious dukkah and I still think it's worth the money because it's a lot healthier than the croissant or muffin. I've been loving my Cotton On Body activewear, particularly the T-Bar Tank and Active Core Capri pants and I feel like after buying activewear I became more motivated to workout because I got to wear it. I went to my first Pilates class this week at the company gym and I was a bit shaky afterwards because I don't normally do 45 minute sessions, but I really enjoyed it and it was a great break from the desk.

Justin Bieber
I'm the same age as him, so I grew up with Baby being played at school dances and formals, and I'm a sheep and I really love some of his new songs- I particularly like What Do You Mean, Sorry and Love Yourself.

Doctor Who Season 9
